          Super Hero Ralph 09/13/2011

Since we are moving, I am once again thinking about how to decorate the kids rooms. The girls want Princess of course and luckily the room they will have is already pink, so I'm not going to do much right away. Ralph wants a super hero room, but I don't want to go crazy painting right now, so I'm going to try to come up with ways to cover the wall with super heroes. I have made a few posters using comic book cover art I have found online. I am going to have them printed in 8x20 size and hang them around the room. I also found a site where a lady made super hero logos using mdf and I may try that with cardboard. I have searched for ideas for super hero rooms, but there really isn't a lot out there except large murals and cityscapes. I will have to see what else I can come up with. I'll post pics once we get it just the way he wants it! In his current room I have his super hero costumes hanging on the wall as part of the decor.

I found out this week that I can't do the artisan market in Lakeland until December, so I decided to start a shop on etsy My shop is R.K.R. Bags I also started a page on Facebook which you can "like" from right here on my blog! I think that if I can actually make money doing something I love to do then why not, right?! I just finished making a travel roll up bag for my friend and I hope she loves it. I will be sending it to her on Monday.
In other news, we are moving....again! AHHH so I will be packing this month...again. We just moved in April so I'm not exactly excited about the moving process, but oh well.

          The coupon shopper 08/12/2011

Last night was one of those nights when I just could not get to sleep. These are the times when I usually come up with all kinds of ideas and then forget them by morning. So,  I finally gave up trying to sleep and came out to my laptop. This was one of my 3am brain children. The coupon shopper. It straps to a shopping cart with Velcro. It has a clear front pocket for a shopping list and or receipts, and inside it can hold tons of coupons, a cell phone, money, or anything else you may need while shopping. I need to tweak the design a little, the flap is a little bit to big, but other then that I like it!
UPDATE: I made a new bag for a friend of mine. I took off the flap and shortened the straps a little.

          No kids! No kids! 08/11/2011

The kids have been with my parents for a few days now (God bless Grandma and Grandpa!) and so I have been sewing like a mad woman! I keep having to remind myself to do things like stop sewing and eat, or maybe brush my hair. It's sad really :-P I am loving it though. The house is quite and nobody needs chocolate milk! I love my children to pieces, but a break is VERY nice!
So, I have made a few trial things that didn't exactly turn out, but I'm going to try again. I made a little square shaped bag that I liked, but it was just way to small. Also a little ruffled bag that hangs from the wrist...but it was a tiny bit to small as well.  I made myself a travel roll up bag that I can put my toiletries in. I used one of those clear plastic table cloths...its not plastic, but I can't  think of what it is right now! I have also been making bags of every shape and size. There are so many things I want to make, but I can't decide what to do next. I think I'm going to try my hand at coffee cozies...I think thats what they are called.  Those little things you put on your coffee cup to keep your hands from getting hot. I want to make something that people actually need, so I need some good ideas.

          Wallets with wristlet straps 07/26/2011

I heard that the first Friday of each month there is an artisan market in downtown Lakeland where people set up tents and sell..whatever. Sooo, I am working on making some things to sell. I will not be ready for August, but possibly September! So far I am making a slight variation of my original wallet. I added a zipper pocket, and turned the credit card slots, because I was having issues with my cards falling out. I am also making matching removable wristlet straps.

I made matching dresses for the girls and I to wear. I put a little ruffle on the hem to add a fun little flair. I can't wait to wear them out together!

I found some fabric in the remnant bin at JoAnn's that I just fell in love with. I wanted to make something with it that I could carry all the time. Since I already made myself a purse, I decided to make a wallet. it is basically a clutch, I can fit it in my purse, or use it on its own. It fits all my credit cards, money, and my phone, as well as a tube of lipstick. I am really happy with the way it turned out! I still have quite a bit of the fabric left over, so I think I will use it to make that portfolio I mentioned in a previous post.

A friend of mine asked me to make a bag for her 2 year old daughter to carry her diapers and sippy cup in at church. We went to the fabric store and found some really cute fabric with Bible verses! (I love fabric stores!) I wanted to make a pouch for her sippy cup so it wouldn't spill in the bag, and a wet pouch for dirty clothes etc. I think it turned out pretty cute!

In my obsessive search of the internet I have found some pretty cool sites with sewing ideas and free patterns.(I don't actually print them out, but I do like to look at them to get an idea of what shape each piece should be.

She has some great design ideas and a few free patterns, in fact I think I'm going to try to make this portfolio soon. I'm not sure if the pattern would fit my iPad, so I may adjust it so that it does.

BurdaStyle is like a social network for people who sew! It has some free patterns and some that you can purchase. Lots of great inspiration here! To download patterns you have to sign up for a free membership.

My next project is going to be a dress for myself, and possibly matching ones for the girls depending on how much fabric I have left over. I am thinking of combining these dress styles somehow.  I'll let you know how it tuns out!

I think this one is really cute, but I would put on some wider straps like the Converse dress.
